I have taught flute for eight years now, and I have enjoyed working with beginning through advanced students from eight years old to adult.  You can read more about my background here.

Taking private lessons with a good teacher is one of the best ways to progress as a music student.   There simply is no substitute for the focused, individualized attention that private lessons provide.

Teaching philosophy

My goals as a flute teacher are:

- to foster an environment that encourages each student to discover his or her full potential.

- to create a positive, collaborative relationship with my students.

- to encourage self-confidence and a love of music.

- to communicate clearly with students and listen attentively to their concerns.

- to teach students to demand excellence in their own work.

- to create a balanced program of music study that includes tone quality, solid technique, performance skills, practice techniques, and general musical knowledge.

- to help students formulate and reach their musical goals.

- to select quality repertoire that students enjoy practicing and performing.

- to help students to develop into capable, artistic flutists.

Locations and fees

My rates for private lessons in my home are $18 per half hour and $36 per hour. I recommend half-hour lessons for beginning and early intermediate students, and one-hour lessons for intermediate and advanced students.

For a slightly higher fee, I do travel to teach in some students’ homes. Rates may be variable depending upon travel time and mileage. Please contact me if you are interested in having lessons in your home.

I also teach at Music and Arts Centers in Charlotte at the University (704-547-1616) and Arboretum (704-341-0000) locations.

I am happy to offer a trial lesson for new students.
