I have extensive experience performing
as a soloist and as a member of various ensembles. You can hear
selections from a few of my performances here.
I am available
to perform ceremonial and background music for weddings, parties,
and other occasions and events. Music is an extremely
important part of setting the mood for an event. I will work
closely with you to help you find exactly what you want, whether it’s
classical music, Celtic music, a traditional wedding ceremony, or
something creative and unique, like tango music or a special song
of your choice.
There are many considerations for someone who is planning
a wedding or other event. Fortunately, an experienced music
professional can help you find something you love. Here are
some points to consider:
Live or recorded music? Buying
a $20 CD or renting a sound system is obviously less costly than
hiring professional musicians. However, live music adds a special
personal touch to your event. Your guests will remember the
music they heard for years to come, so why cut corners there?
Instrumentation
Choosing the instruments you would like to hear at your event is an
important decision. First and foremost, choose instrumental
combinations that you like. Some of my favorites are flute solo,
flute and guitar, flute and piano, flute and harp, or flute and stringed
instruments. I can help you choose instruments that blend well
together and suit your venue and the style of music you choose.
Repertoire Finally, selecting the song(s) or piece(s) of music you would like
to hear is often the most difficult decision. The easiest
way to do this is to find some adjectives that describe the music
you would like: joyful, contemporary, traditional, religious, or romantic.
Even better, if you can come up with a couple examples of songs
or pieces that you like, I can find others that will complement your
favorites. When hiring musicians, don't be afraid to make a
"do not play" list of songs you hate! If the music is for a
wedding, be sure to consult with your pastor, minister, or priest.
Some churches do not allow secular (non-religious) music at weddings.
The flute
is a very versatile instrument, and it works well in many combinations
with other instruments. I work with several talented musicians in
the Charlotte area, and I am happy to arrange booking of the rest
of the ensemble for you.
